Our Carbon Neutral Action

Our purpose as a studio and as team has always been to contribute to the wellbeing of our local and global community. Naturally this lead us to want to do our part in not just reversing the damage done to our environment, but also to protect what we already have. That’s why we are a proud supporter of the project funding the Jarí Para REDD+ Avoided Unplanned Deforestation project in the Amazon Rainforest, which is a Verified Carbon Standard project certified by Pachama.

 

You buy, we pay

We make sure that we offset the carbon cost of anything you buy from our store. This means that every item you purchase direct from our store goes directly into funding these projects to protect our environment, and we want to sincerely thank you for helping us to be able to contribute to the betterment of our planet.

 

What does it mean to be Caron Neutral? 

All our ecommerce shipments generate carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions that are released into the atmosphere, which is called the carbon footprint. That footprint can be calculated and then it is possible to invest in initiatives that capture or prevent emissions for that amount of CO2. This is called carbon offsetting, and results in no increase in CO2 levels in the atmosphere, with a net impact of 0. 

 

Offsetting Carbon emissions with Reforestation

There are several ways to offset the carbon footprint. We have decided to collaborate with Pachama to protect and restore the Jari Para forest, an area of 500,000 hectares of land in the Amazon rainforest in Brazil. Although planting new trees is also helpful, mature trees have greater carbon absorption power - The Jari Para project is anticipated to prevent over 15M tons of CO2 that would have otherwise been emitted. In addition, the Amazon forests are some of the world’s most biodiverse habitats, home to 10% of the world's known species and 40,000 different plants, so by offsetting carbon there, we help to preserve that ecosystem – of which we have sadly already lost around 17% due to illegal timber poaching. 

 

 

Being design conscious

In all of our product projects, we build into our design process the aim of being as environmentally conscious as we can be, from the materials, to the packaging, manufacturing, and shipping. Nevertheless we appreciate that we are not carbon neutral by the end of this process at the moment, which is why we are happy to be able to offset this through a globally certified partner. 

 

Not an ultimate solution, but a beginning

Carbon offsets are not the solution to climate change, but they are a necessary tool to control carbon emissions. As a global company, it is our responsibility to take action to compensate for what we cannot eliminate, and we believe this is a modest but appropriate start. There is still a lot to do, however, so we think of this as a push towards a cleaner and more sustainable way of doing things. As the philosopher Lao-Tse said: "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a first step". Only if we all get involved will we be able to stop the climate crisis. Because our planet matters.
